The AmCham Story
AmCham was founded in 1977 as a non-profit association and operates without financial assistance from any government. There are over 105 AmCham’s operating in 100 countries. AmCham Uganda is the collective voice of US investment in Uganda. Through its elective board of directors it serves as a representative voice for US business and Ugandan/American commerce and industry.Our focus remains primarily on US investment in Uganda. AmCham maintains an open dialogue with the Ugandan government on topical business issues whilst representing the needs of members.
Who We Are
The American Chamber of Commerce Uganda (AmCham Uganda) is a non-profit organization that was founded December 2008 by American investors in Uganda, with membership open to American companies, multinationals, and local companies having strong business ties with the United States. AmCham Uganda represents an important forum for American and international investors in Uganda for their colleagues to share their experiences and discuss areas where we can coordinate our contributions to the Ugandan community and economy.
AmCham Uganda is one of 86 international Chambers in 76 countries affiliated with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce based in Washington, D.C. AmCham Uganda is a professional association of major U.S., foreign and local enterprises doing business in Uganda, as well as small and medium sized firms and business executives in Uganda, who support and abide by the policies of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber represents a broad spectrum and variety of interests ranging from Oil, Manufacturing, ICT, Communication and Consumer Products. Our membership portfolio is over 300 individual members and our Charter Members Forum currently represents the top 15 American companies operating in Uganda.
Our Aims are:
Providing an open forum for the free exchange of ideas in which members may identify, discuss and pursue common interests related to their commercial activities.
Serving as a collective voice of US investment in Uganda in promoting the interests of the local US-Ugandan business community.
Enhancing the capability of members to capitalize on trade and investment opportunities in Uganda.
Playing a leading role in expanding economic growth opportunities in Uganda through the enhancement of trade and investment between Uganda and the US.
Serving as a platform for the regionalization of US commercial, trade and investment interests in East Africa.
Being a direct liaison with the Chamber of Commerce of the United States and other business organizations, and to express the views of the local US business community to public and private interests in the US and Uganda.
To foster the bonds of friendship, greater cultural understanding, cooperation and dialogue between the Ugandan and the United States business people and professionals and to promote and strengthen commercial, economic and trade ties.
