Taslaf Legal Alert: Analysis of the Employment (Amendment) Act. 2025
Uganda's Employment (Amendment) Act, 2025, marks one of the most significant reforms to the country's labor framework in nearly two decades. The amendments introduce major changes that affect every employer in Uganda, covering areas such as expanded protections for domestic and casual workers, a broader definition of the workplace, stronger anti-harassment obligations, increased sick leave entitlements, a fixed severance formula of one month's salary per year worked, and new rules on dismissal, probation, and migrant labor. Recruitment agencies operating in the overseas labor sector also face a significantly stricter regulatory regime. TASLAF Advocates has produced a detailed analysis of the Act and its practical implications for businesses operating in Uganda.
