Introducing Our New Resident Business Member, YLEC

YLEC new resident member

Youth Leading Environmental Change (YLEC) started as an environmental youth engagement workshop series developed collaboratively by a group of researchers, representatives of environmental organizations and young environmental leaders in Bangladesh, Canada, Germany, India, Uganda, and the United States. In Uganda, the lead researcher was Prof. Frank Mugagga under Makerere University.

Following completion of the workshops, the group in Uganda stayed on course applying the knowledge learnt to bring about lasting impacts for the environment. Led by Mr. Isaac Sserwanga, the group met regularly through the years up until the time of registration when they became a fully operational entity.

”We are pleased to have been accepted and recognized as a youth organization that is now part of the AmCham Uganda family. We hope to create partnerships and share in experiences and knowledge with fellow members and also increase our visibility both local and international in terms of networking, getting more partners on board and donors.“ YLEC said in a statement.

YLEC focuses mainly on the Youth. Their program focus areas are Climate Change, Clean Energy, Food Security, Environmental Art and technology as well as Waste Management. YLEC puts the youth at the fore front as ambassadors that create and contribute towards environmental sustainability whilst achieving community development.

YLEC’S aims to be the leading green organization in Africa engaging the youth in tackling environmental degradation and promoting environmental sustainability. A world where the youth are in positions of influence and leadership, are stewards of the environment and contribute towards policy development and implementation to achieve sustainable development. Communities economically and socially empowered alongside a thriving ecosystem and environmental system. A nation that has environmental sustainability as a core for development as well as policy framework and budget that is sufficient to drive the sustainability agenda within all parts of the country.
